Micro Cap Companies are Micro Brewing a Buzz on Wall Steet

The world of micro brewing has taken cities in America by storm, with consumers gravitating to more flavorful beer and spirits over the past few years.  But the competition is stiff.  As reported on The Small Cap Network:
Brewing behemoths Anheuser-Busch InBev NV (NYSE: BUD), SABMiller plc (LON: SAB), Heineken N.V. (PINK: HINKY) and Carlsberg A/S (CPH: CARL-A) control about 55% of the global beer market (up from just 17% in 1999) but increasingly craft brewers or microbrewers are giving them a run for their money with Boston Beer Co (NYSE: SAM), Craft Brew Alliance (NASDAQ: BREW) and Big Rock Brewery (TSE: BR) being the main publicly traded small cap craft beer stocks for investors to drink up. -SmallCapNetwork
While there are even smaller names in the field like Castle Brands (AMEX: ROX) and Willamette Valley Vineyards, Inc (Nasdaq: WVVI), the giants still dominate.  These micro cap companies are nothing to overlook.

Willamette Valley Vineyards, Inc., produce and sell premium, super premium and ultra premium varietal wines. The Company operates in two segments: Produced Wine and Bacchus Distribution. Bacchus distributes purchased wine and glassware at wholesale prices to in-state customers. Produced wine represents all Willamette Valley Vineyard branded wine, which is produced at the winery. The Company's wines are made from grapes grown on the 791 acres of vineyard owned, leased or contracted by the Company, and from grapes purchased from other nearby vineyards. The grapes are harvested, fermented and made into wine at the Company's Turner winery (Winery) and the wines are sold principally under the Company's Willamette Valley Vineyards label. During the year ended December 31, 2011, the Company purchased 17 acres of vineyard land adjoining the Turner Estate.

Craft Brew Alliance, Inc. is an independent craft brewer. The Company is engaged in brewing, marketing and selling of craft beers in the United States. The Company operates two segments: Beer related operations and Pubs and Other. Beer related operations include the brewing and sale of craft beers from its five breweries. Pubs and Other operations primarily include its five pubs, four, of which are located adjacent to its breweries. The Company brews its Widmer Brothers, Redhook and Kona beers in each of its three mainland production breweries, including New Hampshire Brewery, Oregon Brewery and Washington Brewery. The Company also owns and operates a small manual style brewery, primarily used for small batch production at the Rose Quarter in Portland, Oregon. The Company’s beer portfolio is consisted of the Widmer Brothers, Redhook and Kona brand families. On May 2, 2011, the Company sold 42% interest in Fulton Street Brewery, LLC.

As we have stated before, smaller market cap means there is more room for growth, as well as more risk.  If you have ever had one of these micro brews and appreciated the taste, they may be worth taking a look at the financial, management, and history of these companies.
